What’s the importance of backups?

It’s well understood among business owners that performing regular backups is an important data security practice.  Small business owners also realize the value of storing their backups at an offsite location. It only takes one fire, earthquake, or other natural disaster, ransomware infection, or server hardware failure to lose your company’s vital data. In fact, most companies fail within 1 year of losing their server data.

When a business invests in Syntiro’s hybrid onsite/offsite backup solution, they have ensured business continuity in the event of any disaster.  We configure our backup solution to image your servers multiple times per day.  These backups are saved locally to an appliance and then uploaded via an encrypted VPN connection to two geographically disparate datacenters in the Cloud.  If one of your servers has a catastrophic failure, or there is a natural disaster rendering your building without power, damaged, or destroyed, your servers can be brought up in the Cloud within several hours.  This will allow access from the Internet to your servers so you can continue to conduct business.  If your systems are infected with  ransomware, all backed up server data is safe on the backup appliance and can be locally restored within minutes.  The backup appliance is impervious to current ransomware attacks and other viruses as it runs on Ubuntu, a flavor of Linux.  Currently, all ransomware threats target Windows operating systems.  Of course, normal day to day accidental file deletions or overwritten files can also be restored in minutes from the most recent backup to a previously created backup.
